Shower Cap Happy

31 03 2009

There’s a whole world of high-end, chic, feelgood, celebrity-endorsed, red-carpeted charity fundraising out there. We got to experience it last Thursday when the legendary crew over at TomTom Nation gave us two tickets to the ICA annual fundraising gala at the Brewery, Chiswell Street (because they roll like that).

The roll call of names read like the gossip pages of The London Paper. At the risk of sounding like a “name dropper” Bob and Pixie Geldof, Allan Carr, Janet Street Porter, Bianca Jagger, Henry Holland, Alice Delal, Jo Whiley, Mika… Need I say any more?

The evening was fab (darling) with champers, an immaculate dinner service and good times with our table fellows including the guys over at SpinVox and a great geezer from Digital Media at Haymarket Publications.

Needless to say we had a great time, highlights included Mika’s last minute thwarted bid at the Auction to have a wing of the ICA named after him, Allan Carr’s raucous presenting, the unparalleled welcome on the red carpet from the concierge and assorted paparazzi and Janet Street Porter giving us her shower cap! I can explain…

And that ends our first (and probably only) pseudo celeb gossip column. Normal service will be resumed shortly…

I Hate It. I Hate Having To Go Along With Everything My Friends Say.

17 12 2008

If any of you have ever been to the Breakfast Club in Angel, Islington, you’ll know it’s a cosy little place, ideal for relaxing and having a stress-free time. Well, that was not the case when Duane, Saf and I decided to join forces and hammer out our plans for Sense for the next year.
The meeting started at about 6:30pm and went a little something like this:

  • Lots of arguing
  • Lots of food
  • But lots of agreeing too
  • Orange juice
  • A steady flow of ideas
  • Decisions left to be made
  • Free badges
  • Realising we had lots of work to do
  • The nice man at the Breakfast club who made me and Saf smile

Before we knew it, it was nearly 11pm. A decision which could have taken 30 seconds to make turned in to a 30 minute dispute. We couldn’t function anymore. Officially pooped, we called it a day.

But it wasn’t all stress and disagreements:

Business cards have been ordered and they look very swish
Word is spreading about Sense
Everyone is inspired by Battlefront (see Duane’s last post)
We are itching to get started and have some excellent ideas
The consultation is in January – better get cracking on that consultation…

  • Also, I have been doing some of the following:
  • Watching: Gilmore Girls – complete rubbish but its great
  • Listening to: Empire of the Sun
  • Watched: Jamie Lidell live in London
  • Eating: Christmassy things
  • Reading: The Guardian on the way to work (Hadley Freeman rocks).

Toodles.

You’re Already Involved…

12 12 2008

Went to the AMAZING Battlefront event tonight…

Where 20 young people are campaigning on various issues from gang culture to proper recycling of the millions of free newspapers that are given out left right and centre in London everyday.

WOW what can I say the whole setup was amazing. The young people left me feeling inspired and taught me a thing or two.

Most important I think reminded me to listen and ask more questions (Thanks Alex!) reminded me how great it is to see young people fired up about changing the world (Zander!) and made me laugh out loud with renditions of the editing process (Zainab!)

Thanks guys I had a ball and bumped into people I really needed to see. Double bonus!

Goodnight and Sleep Tight. Tomorrow it all begins again…

Consultation Station

If you can think of a better title for this post, please feel free to send it in by comment.

Remember the days when you had to send your suggestions in by postcard? You’ve gotta love progress. Real time baby. Real time.

This is a small post of appreciation to Krishna who has created an excellent draft consultation. Really looking forward to going over it tonight.

Other than that, it’s back to work for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

00:42, Friday Night.

22 11 2008

Just sent out the flyer to a few hundred people. I think we’ll get some good responses. I hope.

Really pleased with Krishna’s draft consultation. Wanna speed up time so we can get it done already!

I’m a mixture of confidence and fear on this one. Will this be the time or will I have to wait another year before things really get going?

Not sure if I should be blogging this! Is this normal for someone to work this late?! Well my rationale is that this is all part of the journey and otherwise how would you know that this is what I am doing?

I need to get some sleep!
